YP: Yea definitely, I don’t think there’s anything leaving Chicago without NO-ID having some type of influence behind it. I feel he is the greatest producer alive. I feel Just to have that association with him is a blessing in it self.

GSM: What’s the story behind the title of your next mixtape “No Dose”?

YP: That will be out July 1^st; I’m releasing something before that called “Sleep Walking” w/ DJ Shawn Mac just a mixtape keeping my name warmed up.

GSM: Let’s talk about “Still Awake”, what do you want your fans to hear when they listen to it?

YP: That allows everybody to know who I am. It tell’s my story on the take of the game, I feel the person who works hard and no sleep will get ahead.

GSM: Bring from Chicago, for some reason your sound is like a mix of south and west coast. You agree?

YP: I feel like I can agree with that because where I’m from in the Midwest its like a melting pot. I grew up listening to everything from Snoop Dog to Jay-z, when you have all that music it just influences you yourself so you end up sounding like nobody else music.

GSM: Tell us how did you get the opportunity to sit down with universal to acquire a deal?

YP: I came to LA to work with NO-ID, it seemed like soon I came out there I started getting crazy calls from people I never heard of for example Sony, Epic, universal and etc. I started taking meetings and my A&R set a bunch of things and we just finally settled with universal.

GSM: How was it performing at SXSW for the third time in a row?

YP: Yea third times a charm, this time around I had like 8 shows so with the label behind me it was great.

GSM: How was it working with Jim Jones recording “Getting Money”?

YP: It was dope! It was my first time in NY club partying and we met up. We hit the studio right after the club till like 4-5 am and just vibe out. He gave me so much advice with this music game and I look up to him as my big homie.

GSM: What’s your favorite venue performing in so far?

YP:  Everything in Chicago, but I would say rock the bells tour with Raekwon and mob deep.

What type of music do you represent?

I like to do R&B and Gospel. I grew up in the church singing at the young age of nine. I’ve been able to branch out since then going through choirs and groups. I just happen to finally to be a solo artist.

What inspired you to be in music?

I would say just the passion I have for it and the people I look up to today.

Do you have any singles out?

Yes. It’s titled “When I See Her.” It’s picking up a lot of steam and I’m getting great feedback from it.

What do you feel you bring to the game that’s missing?

I feel when it comes to my voice, it’s like a new school/old school feel. In addition, I write music and I’m a full entertainer.

What kind of music has influenced you as an artist?

I am inspired by great music to which gives me the motivation to keep pushing the boundaries.

Urban Gentlemen

Tell us the history of how you guys formed the group.

Urban Gentlemen was founded by a mutual friend. We came together and did a track called “This Right Here.” The connection was great in the studio, so we just made good music.

What new music are you working on?

I wouldn’t say we’re working on a mixtape or album. It’s more about promotion and what we want our fans to hear from us. We feel like it’s an important element when reaching out to a new audience, that they feel our passion for the music.

What’s the name of your new single?

It’s titled, “Midnight Love Affair.” We came up with that idea and wanted to put something together that would be meaningful. It’s for the ladies; a record that they can vibe out[…], love, and play.

Which member in the group is more of a “freestyler”?

That would be Kirk because he’s the one that often just freestyles a record and goes back and fixes up the track.

How long have you guys have been a group?

Urban Gentlemen: It’s been under a year, but the chemistry together feels like we’ve been working for years.

What new thing do you guys feel you can bring to the table in the industry?

Urban Gentlemen: We feel, basically, that it says it in the name, Urban Gentlemen. We feel we can touch a wide range of audience. Hip-hop, Pop, Rock – we can do it all. Watch out for us in 2010; a lot of big things coming.

While recording artist Vado surprised the student’s at the school with some prized words and advice. All the juniors and senior students were able to enjoy all the activities held during the event. Vado signed autograph towels  for all the students and Power 105.1 DJ Whateva played all the latest in hip hop music. Vado also presented the student with a speech as well, speaking on what helped him become successful in his music career. He performed his hit “Speaking In Tongues,” which caused the kids to go into a screaming frenzy. DJ Webstar who could not make the event sent a video message and personally invited the Thurgood Marshall Academy students to be in his upcoming music video with Young Money and Wale. The “Showcase For Change” event was held to raise awareness for the development and financial support of New York City public schools and TMA music program.Student were able to display their talents and hear motivational speeches from America’s Next Top Model Cycle 4 contender Keenyah Hill, poet J. Sharelle, Get Signed Magazine E-I-C, Mac Millz and film director Noel Calloway. Capitol Records artist Josh Xantusalso showed support at TMA high school. The good people over at IPOP and TMA with assoication of Get signed magazine made this possible and looking forward to the “Showcase for  change” Series

“I feel great about the new deal; I believe it was destined and with a label like Polo Grounds & RCA behind me I don’t see anything stopping us,” I wanted go with the right partner that can help get a bigger platform to get me and my A$AP crew’s music and movement out. I expect to be in the same league as today’s most relevant artists, and there are just some things you can’t do on your own. The plan is to not only release great music, culture, and style for myself and A$AP worldwide, but to also be the next major artist/exec in the business and make great business men out of my brothers.”
